Paste raw Base64 or a full data URI in the input box to reconstruct the original file — any type, not just images — then name it and download it locally.
Base64 to File
Turn any Base64 string back into a downloadable file with our Base64 to File decoder. Unlike image-only decoders, this tool handles every file type: paste a raw Base64 payload from an API response, database field, or JSON export, or drop in a complete data:...;base64,... URI, and it rebuilds the exact original bytes in your browser. The format is detected automatically from the file's magic bytes, covering images, PDFs, ZIP archives, audio, video, and more, with anything unrecognized safely saved as .bin. You get the detected MIME type, true file size, and suggested extension, plus an editable file name field, a one-click download, and an open-in-new-tab option for quick previews of documents and media. Everything runs locally with debounced live parsing, so payloads are never uploaded and there are no size limits beyond your device memory.
Why This Tool Exists
What makes this useful — and why I built it this way.
Beyond Images: Rebuild PDFs, archives, audio, video, and documents, not just pictures.
No Format Guessing: Magic-byte detection identifies the file type for you.
Safe Fallback: Unknown payloads still decode cleanly as .bin files.
Flexible Output: Rename freely, download, or preview in a new tab.
Local Processing: Base64 data never leaves your browser.
When You'd Use This
Real situations where this tool saves the day.
API Debugging: Save Base64 file fields from REST or GraphQL responses as real files.
Database Recovery: Turn Base64 blobs stored in table columns back into usable files.
Email Forensics: Rebuild attachments from raw Base64 MIME parts.
Data Migration: Convert exported Base64 datasets into downloadable assets.
QA Testing: Verify that an encode pipeline round-trips byte-for-byte.
Using Base64 to File
It's straightforward — here's how it works.
Paste raw Base64 or a full data:...;base64,... URI into the input box.
The file is reconstructed automatically as you paste.
Check the detected type, size, and suggested extension.
Adjust the file name if needed.
Download the file or open it in a new tab.
Questions People Ask
Honest answers about how this works.
What is the difference between this and Base64 to Image?
Base64 to Image is image-only, with a live visual preview, dimensions, and image-specific downloads. Base64 to File accepts any file type, detects formats from PDFs to ZIPs to audio, and focuses on reconstructing the original file with a name you choose.
Does my Base64 data leave the browser?
No. Decoding, format detection, and file reconstruction all happen locally in your browser using object URLs that live only in your tab's memory. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored.
What happens if the format cannot be detected?
The payload still decodes and downloads as a .bin file with the generic application/octet-stream type, so no data is lost. If you know the real type, just rename the extension before or after downloading.
Why did decoding fail?
Decoding fails when the input contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet, is truncated mid-stream, or is a non-Base64 data URI such as a UTF-8 SVG. Re-copy the complete string and make sure it is genuine Base64.
