Example Use Case

Embed UTF-8 text safely inside JSON, URLs, email templates, or CSS content values, then decode it anywhere with a single Base64 decode call.

Real-time Processing

All processing happens locally in your browser. Large files are handled in memory and never uploaded to any server.

Text to Base64

Convert any text into Base64 and back with our Text to Base64 encoder. Base64 is the standard way to represent binary or Unicode data as plain ASCII characters, which makes it safe to embed in JSON payloads, URLs, CSS, email templates, and configuration files without worrying about escaping or character encoding problems. Our encoder is fully UTF-8 aware, so emojis, accented characters, and non-Latin scripts round-trip perfectly instead of failing like naive btoa implementations. A URL-Safe toggle swaps the standard + and / characters for - and _, producing strings you can drop directly into query parameters, JWT tokens, and filenames without percent-encoding. Decoding accepts pasted Base64 with or without padding and ignores stray whitespace, reporting a clear error when the input is not valid Base64. Everything runs instantly in your browser with no uploads, no limits, and no server involved.

Why This Tool Exists

What makes this useful — and why I built it this way.

Two-Way Conversion: Encode and decode in a single tool.

Unicode Support: Emojis and international text encode correctly.

URL-Safe Output: Generate tokens ready for query strings and filenames.

Clear Errors: Invalid Base64 input is caught and explained.

Local Processing: Text never leaves your browser during conversion.

When You'd Use This

Real situations where this tool saves the day.

Web Development: Embed images or text in CSS and JSON payloads.

API Testing: Build Basic auth headers and token values quickly.

Email Templates: Insert rich content into HTML email safely.

Data Migration: Wrap Unicode strings for systems that expect ASCII.

Debugging: Inspect what a Base64 string actually contains.

Using Text to Base64

It's straightforward — here's how it works.

Step 1

Paste or type the text you want to encode.

Step 2

Choose Text to Base64 or Base64 to Text mode.

Step 3

Enable URL-Safe mode if the result goes into a URL or token.

Step 4

Click Process to generate the output instantly.

Step 5

Copy the result or decode it back at any time.

Questions People Ask

Honest answers about how this works.

What is Base64 used for?

Base64 converts bytes or Unicode text into a limited alphabet of 64 ASCII characters so the data can travel through channels that only handle plain text, such as JSON, URLs, email, and XML. It is also the format behind data URIs, JWT tokens, and HTTP Basic authentication headers.

Does my text leave the browser?

No. Encoding and decoding happen entirely in your browser using built-in JavaScript functions. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored, so passwords, tokens, and private messages never touch a server at any point.

Why does Base64 make text longer?

Base64 packs 3 bytes of input into 4 printable characters, and URL-safe output also removes padding, so the result is roughly 33% larger than the original. That overhead is the price of representing arbitrary data as safe ASCII text.

Why did my decode fail?

Decode fails when the input contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet or is missing pieces of a group. Check for truncated copies, stray symbols, or mixed encodings, and turn on URL-Safe mode if the string contains - and _ characters instead of + and /.
