Base64 to Image
Turn any Base64 string back into a real image with our Base64 to Image decoder. Paste a raw Base64 payload copied from an API response, a database field, or a JSON file, or drop in a complete data:image/... URI, and the tool instantly renders a live preview with a transparency checkerboard background. It automatically sniffs the image format from the file's magic bytes, so PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, BMP, ICO, and even Base64-encoded SVG are detected without you declaring the type. URL-safe Base64 with - and _ characters is accepted and normalized automatically, and stray whitespace or line breaks from copied email threads are ignored. Alongside the preview you get the detected format, MIME type, true file size, character count, and pixel dimensions, plus a one-click download that saves the file with the correct extension. Everything runs locally in your browser with debounced live parsing, so nothing is uploaded and there are no size limits beyond your device memory.
Why This Tool Exists
What makes this useful — and why I built it this way.
No Format Guessing: Magic-byte sniffing detects PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, BMP, ICO, and SVG automatically.
Tolerant Input: Whitespace, line breaks, and URL-safe alphabets are handled for you.
Instant Feedback: Debounced live parsing renders the preview as you paste.
Correct Downloads: Files save with the right extension every time.
Local Processing: Base64 data never leaves your browser.
When You'd Use This

Questions People Ask
Honest answers about how this works.
What is the difference between this and the Data URI to Image Converter?
This tool is the fast, focused path: paste any raw Base64 image payload and get a preview plus download, with automatic format detection and no setup. The Data URI to Image Converter is the full workbench, adding the reverse direction (image to Base64/HTML/CSS/Markdown snippets) and SVG optimization controls.
Does my Base64 data leave the browser?
No. Parsing, format detection, rendering, and downloading all happen locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored, so API payloads, database blobs, and private images stay on your own device.
Why does it say the format could not be detected?
That happens when the payload is truncated, contains non-Base64 characters, or is not image data at all (for example, a Base64-encoded PDF or text file). Re-copy the complete string and check that it decodes to PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, BMP, ICO, or SVG content.
Why is the decoded file smaller than the Base64 string?
Base64 encoding inflates data by roughly 33% because it represents every 3 bytes as 4 printable characters. The downloaded image is the true original size, which is why the inspector shows both the character count and the real byte size.
