Repair unpadded base64url token segments from JWTs, or clean up Base64 pasted from wrap-prone sources like emails and chat apps.
All processing happens locally in your browser. Large files are handled in memory and never uploaded to any server.
Base64 Padding Fixer
Repair broken Base64 padding automatically with our Base64 Padding Fixer. Missing '=' characters are the most common reason decoders reject pasted strings, especially unpadded base64url from JWTs and text wrapped by emails or chats. The tool adds exactly the padding the payload length requires, trims excess '=' characters, strips whitespace, and optionally normalizes URL-safe alphabets back to standard form. Every repair is verified by decoding the result before it is shown, and genuinely corrupt input, such as illegal characters or impossible lengths, gets a clear explanation instead of a silent bad fix. Everything runs instantly and locally in your browser.
Why This Tool Exists
What makes this useful — and why I built it this way.
One-Click Repair: Correct padding computed from payload length.
JWT Ready: Unpadded base64url segments fixed and normalized.
Verified Output: Every fix is decode-checked before display.
No Silent Corruption: Unfixable input errors clearly.
Local Processing: Strings never leave your browser.
When You'd Use This
Real situations where this tool saves the day.
JWT Debugging: Fix unpadded token segments before inspection.
Email Recovery: Repair Base64 mangled by line wrapping.
Chat Copies: Clean strings pasted from messaging apps.
Log Analysis: Normalize encoded fields from wrapped log lines.
API Retries: Salvage payloads rejected for padding errors.
Using Base64 Padding Fixer
It's straightforward — here's how it works.
Paste the broken Base64 string.
Choose repair options (whitespace, URL-safe).
Click Process to generate the fixed string.
Copy the verified result.
Questions People Ask
Honest answers about how this works.
How does the fixer know how much padding to add?
The data length determines it exactly: valid Base64 needs a total length divisible by 4, so 0, 1, or 2 '=' characters complete the final group. Lengths with remainder 1 are mathematically impossible and reported as corrupt.
Does my string leave the browser?
No. Analysis, repair, and verification decoding all run locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored, so tokens and private payloads never touch a server.
Why can't some strings be fixed?
Padding only completes packaging; it cannot replace missing data or illegal characters. Mid-string '=' signs, non-alphabet symbols, and impossible lengths mean the payload itself is damaged, which no padding can heal.
Should I normalize URL-safe to standard?
Keep the toggle on when the result feeds standard decoders, most of which reject - and _. Turn it off when the consumer expects base64url, such as JWT libraries, and only the padding gets repaired.
